In 2009 my mom bought three Then and Now Bathing Suit Barbies. The dolls were $3 each! She bought one for herself, one for my niece and one for me. At the time, I did not want to start collecting Barbie because I didn’t want to collect anything. I don’t like “stuff” hanging around. So I told mom she could keep the doll for herself.
But when I began to talk about starting a Barbie blog my mom offered the doll up to me again. This time I took it just to have it for the blog. I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do with it because I thought I didn’t like it very much. But I was wrong.
The first cool thing about this doll is the vintage artwork behind the doll. I LOVE vintage Barbie artwork. I think that bears repeating: I LOVE vintage Barbie artwork. I do.
Also, I’m suprised by how much I like the bathing suit. When I first laid eyes on the doll I thought, “Ugh, I hate it when they try to update a classic like the original swimsuit.” But now I really like how the black and white stripes are accented with cute pops of pink. You’re going to keep the hoop earrings but make them pink. Cool.
And oh my goodness, is that the Mackie face! Yes! Okay then. I’m converted.
